Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, July 07, 2008. A trough of low pressure and attached low pressure system will drive much of eastern Asia's weather Monday.

The trough of low pressure will sweep through southeastern Russia and northern China will driving its associated cold front through the Yellow Sea and inland portions of China. The front itself will not make much headway eastward on Monday. It will also not carry much moisture, and thus will not produce very much precipitation. A warm front will extend into Japan and will instigate areas of warm rain through Honshu and Hokkaido. Closer to the trough of low pressure center, cooler precipitation will fall in southeastern Russia.

Meanwhile, moist flow off the South China Sea and into southeastern China will produce more scattered showers and thunderstorms in combination with the aforementioned low pressure system over southeast China.

Warm air will thrust well northward through the Sea of Japan and into the Sea Of Ohkotsk.

Tokyo will rise into the lower 80s(F)/upper 20s(C), while Shanghai will see temperatures in the lower 90s(F)/lower 30s(C). Seoul will rise into the lower 80s(F)/upper 20s(C).

For Australia, a trough of low pressure will sweep through the eastern Great Australian Bight on its way towards the southeastern portion of the country. It will produce widespread rain from Brisbane through the eastern Great Australian Bight as well as in Tasmania.

A high pressure system will build behind this trough and will produce dry conditions for the region of the country.

Sydney will rise into the upper 60s(F)/lower 20s(C), while Melbourne will see temperatures in the mid-50s(F)/lower 10s(C). Brisbane will rise into the upper 60s(F)/lower 20s(C).

Bertha over warmer waters, should strengthen

Tropical Storm Bertha continues west-northwestward over the open Atlantic, and has now moved over some warmer Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) of 26°C. Wind shear has remained about 10-15 knots, and the storm appears to be responding to these slightly more favorable conditions by generating a larger area of heavy thunderstorm activity near the center.
