Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, May 16, 2012. A strong storm will continue moving across Honshu and into the Pacific Ocean south of the Sea of Okhotsk on Wednesday. This will translate to widespread morning rain for Honshu and Hokkaido, leading to diminishing precipitation in these areas as the storm moves away from the country. Cooler air will pour into the Sea of Japan region, producing cooler temperatures from the Korean Peninsula through northern Japan.

Meanwhile, a line of moisture will stretch across the Ryukyu Islands and into southeast China. This moisture will produce showers and thunderstorms from the Gulf of Tonkin through the Taiwan Strait and Ryukyu Islands.

No tropical development is expected through the western Pacific Ocean, leaving typical scattered showers and thunderstorms for the Philippines and Indonesia.

Tokyo will rise into the upper 60s(F)/lower 20s(C), while Shanghai will see temperatures in the lower 80s(F)/upper 20s(C). Seoul will rise into the lower 70s(F)/lower 20s(C).

For Australia, a large high pressure system will govern the weather pattern in the country on Wednesday. The rotation around this high pressure system may produce some showers along the east coast from Brisbane through Sydney. These showers will not be widespread or heavy in nature.

Additional showers are possible along the Great Australian Bight will be associated with a small low pressure system that will move into the area in the afternoon and evening.

Sydney will rise into the mid-60s(F)/upper 10s(C), while Melbourne will see temperatures in the lower 60s(F)/mid-10s(C). Brisbane will rise into the upper 60s(F)/lower 20s(C).
